When I was pregnant with my first child, I bought so many pregnancy and baby books, including the most famous one, What To Expect When You’re Expecting. Did I actually read these books though? That’s a big fat NOPE. I was way too exhausted by the time I got home from work. Besides, if I wanted to know something about my pregnancy, like if charlie horses were normal for example, I could just Google it. What would have been nice to have though was a fast and easy way to find out what was happening with my baby and to also have a visual to see how far I’ve come and how much farther I have to go. This product already exists and it’s called the “BabySteps” Scratch Off Calendar, created by Splash Brands.
The “BabySteps” Scratch-Off Calendar is a beautifully designed wall poster with 236 entertaining info, tips, and trivia for parents-to-be. It’s pretty big (25.4″ x 21.5″) and decorated with adorable cartoon animals and baby items. The calendar starts at the bottom left (at Week 5 of pregnancy) and works its way up in a zig-zag pattern (all the way to Week 38 of pregnancy). The individual fields are all covered by scratch paint and one new field is scratched off every day, beginning at Week 9. (I used a quarter and it scratched off very easily.) The info field will say something like “Your baby’s arms and legs are beginning to grow from tiny buds on each side,” the tip field will say something like “Invest in good sun protection: hormonal changes can cause an increase in skin pigmentation,” and the trivia field will say something like “Sympathy weight gain? Studies show that the average dad-to-be gains an extra 9 pounds.”
I really like this calendar, because it’s fun, adorable, easy to use, and informative. You get to learn about what is going on with your growing baby in a fun, fast, and simple way. During the nine months of swollen feet, nausea, and growing pains, its so great to have something nice to look forward to every day of your pregnancy. I also like the calendar, because it is something the Dad-to-be and even children can be involved in too. The calendar is so cute and fun, it almost makes me want to have a third baby… almost. I’ll definitely be getting these for my girlfriends as soon as they announce their pregnancy, because they make great gifts and they also come wrapped in a super cute box, as pictured on the left.
